Artificial intelligence is increasingly being used and adopted as technological advancements to boost verticals across the globe. Though the use of AI remains largely unregulated in the judicial sector, a lot of research and studies have stated and shared good practices to promote the ethical and rightful use of AI in law and justice.
The Second International Conference on Artificial Intelligence in Judicial Practice emphasised on how judiciaries have begun the early usage of AI to improve courtroom efficiencies and showcase some of the pioneering examples and real-life cases.

Ernesto Damiani is a Full Professor at Università degli Studi di Milano (Italy), Senior Director of the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Institute, and Director of Center for Cyber Physical Systems (C2PS) within Khalifa University (UAE). He is the leader of the Big Data area at Etisalat British Telecom Innovation Center (EBTIC), and President of the Consortium of Italian Computer Science Universities (CINI). He is also part of the ENISA Ad-Hoc Working Group on Artificial Intelligence Cybersecurity. Ernesto's areas of interest include cyber-physical systems, Big Data Analytics, Edge/Cloud security and performance, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning. Ernesto Damiani has pioneered model-driven data analytics. He has authored more than 660 Scopus-indexed publications and several patents. Ernesto has been a recipient of the Research and Innovation Award from the IEEE Technical Committee on Homeland Security , of the Stephen Yau Award from the Service Society, of the Outstanding contributions Award from IFIP TC2, of the Chester-Sall Award from IEEE IES, of the IEEE TCHS Research and Innovation Award, and of a doctorate honoris causa from INSA – Lyon (France) for his contribution to Big Data teaching and research.
e-Judiciary Adviser to the Chief Justice of Papua, new Guinea
Alison is an internationally acclaimed expert in the governance of data. Alison’s first book (The Governance of IT) was published by the British Computer Society in September 2013, and the sequel, Data Governance: Governing Data for Sustainable Business was published in May 2021.
Over the last four years, Alison has been working for the Chief Justice of Papua New Guinea as e-Judiciary Adviser. e-Judiciary Projects include the procurement and deployment of a national satellite network to enable all Provincial Courthouses to be safely connected to the internet, a Judges Portal phone application, a digital bail service to enable minor offenders to serve their sentences from home, and an AI sentencing engine.
Alison is a Chartered IT Professional, a Member of the NZ Institute of Directors, a Fellow of both the NZ IT Professionals and the British Computer Society, and a member of the World Class New Zealand network. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and a master’s in international business law and has spent time as an Academic Visitor at the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University, researching safe data sharing.

Badr Boussabat is the Founder & President of AI TOGETHER. AI TOGETHER is an NGO promoting inclusive use of AI and gathering the most eminent AI leaders on the planet. This is the largest organization gathering AI leaders from private companies. He is also one of the Advisory Board Members of the International Group of Artificial Intelligence (IGOAI) and Country Advisor to Belgium.
